With the Nebraska men’s basketball team potentially losing one guard for the season, it added a seasoned veteran who was one of the MAC’s best players last season.
Jarron “Boogie” Coleman, a 6-foot-5 guard who averaged 14.3 points per game at Ball State last season, announced his transfer to NU as the team prepares to return from its three-game exhibition in Spain.
Coleman, who transferred from Ball State five days ago as a graduate, ostensibly moves into the spot vacated by Iowa transfer Ahron Ulis, who has been charged as part of the gambling scandal enveloping the Iowa and Iowa State athletic departments. Ulis did not play in Spain.
Coleman, second-team All-MAC last season, is a volume shooter who hit 35.2% from 3 on 193 attempts in 2022-2023. He started 30 games for the 20-12 Cardinals, averaging 4.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

He becomes the fifth new Husker added through the transfer portal this offseason. NU signed two true freshman as well. In theory, Nebraska has filled all of its empty scholarships, although Ulis’ status is unclear.
Coleman left last week to the chagrin of coach Michael Lewis, a former Husker hoops assistant under Tim Miles.
“As a program we are proud of many of Jarron's accomplishments, but none more than "Boogie" becoming his family's first college graduate upon completing summer school requirements on July 22,” Lewis said in a statement. “I believe that Ball State University has gone above and beyond to provide a foundation of success for Boogie's future, including graduation. Although we are disappointed in the timing of this decision, we will always support graduating our student-athletes regardless of risk due to current NCAA rules regarding transfer eligibility and other external influences.”
